Why copying and pasting addresses is the worst part of depositing crypto
Depositing crypto onto an exchange usually means the same handful of steps: find the right network, copy a long wallet address character by character, paste it into your other platform, and hope nothing goes wrong along the way. Pick the wrong network or mistype a single character, and there’s no undo button on a blockchain.
It’s the kind of friction that keeps experienced traders cautious, and stops newer users from moving funds at all.
What’s new: choose “Another exchange” and skip the address
Our deposit flow now includes a second path. After you choose the asset and network you want to deposit, you’ll see the option to deposit from “Another exchange” alongside the usual deposit address.
Select it, and a secure Mesh window opens: pick which exchange you’re sending from, sign in (some platforms, like Coinbase, open their own login window, which is expected), choose an amount, and confirm. The crypto is sent on-chain straight to your Kraken deposit address and credited the same way any other crypto deposit is.
Want to deposit more of a token than you currently hold on that exchange? Mesh’s SmartFunding can make up the difference from your other balances there. If you want to deposit 10,000 USDC but only hold 7,000 USDC, Mesh can convert about 3,000 USDC worth of your other holdings on that exchange to cover the rest, in the same step. That exchange’s own trading, network, or conversion fees may apply to that portion.
If you close the window or cancel at any point, nothing is sent and no transfer starts. And if your exchange isn’t supported yet, the standard deposit address and QR code options are still right there.
Built on Mesh’s payments network
This new option is powered by Mesh, a crypto payments network that connects exchanges so platforms like Kraken can offer one secure way to move crypto between accounts.
Mesh facilitates the connection to your other exchange, and you sign in to that platform, including any two-factor checks it requires – similar to how a service like Plaid connects to your bank. We never see or store your password for that other platform.
Where it works today
At launch, you can connect Coinbase (depending on local availability) with more exchanges coming soon. If your exchange isn’t on it yet, you can still deposit the usual way with a wallet address.
This option is available now on the Kraken website, with mobile support coming soon.
We don’t charge a fee for this. Your other exchange may charge its own withdrawal or network fee. That’s set by that platform, not by Kraken.
How to try it
- Sign in to Kraken and go to Deposit
- Choose crypto, then select the asset and network
- On the Deposit from screen, select Another exchange
- Sign in to that exchange in the secure Mesh window, choose the amount, and confirm
