Long-time Shiba Inu community member and Shiba Eternity advisor Mazrael has flagged a fake SHIB alert circulating on social media. He describes the campaign as a wallet drainer and urges users not to interact with the links shared.
An X account, obviously a fraudulent one, mentioned that the ‘SHIB airdrop hype’ was back and claimed to be eligible after checking his wallet while sharing a link to a fraudulent website.
In his post, Mazrael alerted the Shiba Inu community to the fake SHIB campaign, saying there is no such airdrop and that it is a wallet drainer, urging users not to interact with the links.
“care. no such airdrop. this is a drainer,” Mazrael wrote, adding that several scam posts of this kind were flooding timelines and urging users to avoid clicking the links and report the accounts or posts responsible.
A fraudulent airdrop page may request a wallet connection or ask users to approve a transaction or token permission. Depending on what the victim signs or authorizes, attackers could gain the ability to transfer assets from the connected wallet.
Crypto drainers explained
As previously indicated, Mazrael described the tactics being utilized by the scammers to target Shiba Inu holders as a ‘drainer’.
A crypto drainer is a type of malicious software or phishing tool specifically designed to steal digital assets directly from cryptocurrency wallets. Unlike traditional phishing that steals usernames and passwords, crypto drainers target the smart contract permissions and transaction approvals that govern wallets. Drainers can also operate via malicious browser extensions or compromised dApps.

First, scammers create fake websites that mimic legitimate platforms, and in the instance flagged by Mazrael, the URL shared was a fake Shiba Inu link, as Shib.io remains Shib’s official website.
The scammers promote these malicious links intended to deceive unsuspecting users, who are prompted to connect their crypto wallets to the site.
Once connected, the site shows a transaction pop-up, which is in fact an approval request or a malicious signature. By signing it, the user unknowingly grants the drainer smart contract permission to spend or transfer their tokens.
That is why crypto users are advised to always check official project channels before clicking on links shared on social media or Discord, even if they appear to be coming from verified accounts.
