Intel, Apple, Coinbase, SpaceX, and Meta all made headlines Wednesday. Here is a breakdown of each story and what it means.
Intel Jumps on SK Hynix Partnership Reports
Intel shares surged as much as 5.5% Wednesday after Reuters reported that SK Hynix is in talks with Intel about making chips in the United States.
One proposal would see SK Hynix lease space at Intel’s Ohio semiconductor facility. Another would create a joint venture between the two companies and major cloud providers looking to secure more memory chip supply.
No deal has been confirmed. The talks are still at an early stage.
The AI boom is driving intense demand for advanced memory chips. A deal would give Intel a key manufacturing partner and give SK Hynix its first U.S. memory production presence.
Apple Eyes Nvidia Technology for AI Servers
Apple is reportedly building AI servers powered by its upcoming M8 Ultra chips. The company is said to be looking at using Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion technology to connect those processors together.
The servers would handle AI inference, meaning they would run AI models that have already been trained. This would push Apple deeper into enterprise AI infrastructure.
The product is not expected before 2029 and could still be changed or cancelled. But if it happens, it would mark a new level of cooperation between two of the world’s largest tech companies.
Nvidia’s networking technology is becoming a bigger part of the AI infrastructure market. An Apple partnership would extend that reach further.
Coinbase and Crypto Suffer Senate Setback
The U.S. Senate voted 49-50 to block the CLARITY Act from moving forward. The bill aimed to clarify whether digital assets fall under securities or commodities rules. It needed 60 votes to advance and fell well short.
For Coinbase, the outcome is a setback. Clear regulation has been central to its growth plans for years.
The bill could return in the future. But for now, regulatory uncertainty remains a key issue for the entire crypto industry.
SpaceX Targets September 22 for Starship Test
SpaceX shares rose nearly 6% after the company said its 14th Starship test flight could happen as soon as September 22.
This would be Starship’s most complex mission yet. Plans include reaching stable Earth orbit, completing around six orbits over roughly 10 hours, and deploying Starlink V3 satellites for the first time.
The flight still needs regulatory approval. A successful mission would move SpaceX closer to a fully reusable rocket that could cut launch costs and carry heavier Starlink payloads.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also made waves Wednesday. He rejected calls for AI companies to slow development, arguing competition and legal liability already push developers to build safely. His stance puts him at odds with Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Elon Musk.
