Tesla has confirmed its Semi electric truck is heading to Europe, with customer deliveries set to begin in 2027. The announcement came at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hannover, Germany, where Tesla also launched new regional web pages covering specs, design updates, and features.

The Semi has had a long road to get here. Tesla first showed the truck back in 2017, with production originally planned for 2019. Battery supply shortages pushed those plans back as the company prioritised its passenger vehicle lineup. Limited U.S. deliveries eventually kicked off in late 2022, with PepsiCo among the early customers.
Earlier this year, Tesla said the first Semi had rolled off a high-volume production line in Nevada. A July shareholder update confirmed that full Semi production is now planned for 2026, dropping an earlier target for volume production this year.
European Specs and Features
Tesla’s German-language website lists a version with up to 550 km of range at a gross combination weight of 40 tonnes, using around 1 kWh per kilometre. The truck weighs approximately 9,100 kg without cargo or trailer.
It offers 25 kW of electric power take-off and can recover about 60% of its range in 30 minutes using Tesla’s Megacharger network, which delivers charging speeds up to 800 kW.
Tesla is also promising route-based charging scheduling and dedicated service centres to cut downtime for fleet operators.
How the Semi Stacks Up
The Semi runs on a multi-motor setup. One torque axle handles heavy pulling at low speeds, while an efficiency axle keeps things smooth at highway speeds. Tesla swapped out traditional hydraulic steering for a fully electric power steering system, making it easier to integrate Autopilot features.
Data from pilot trucks that have logged over 13.5 million miles shows the Semi averaged between 1.55 and 1.7 kWh per mile during commercial freight testing at highway speeds. Its low drag coefficient of around 0.4 helps keep energy use down.
Tesla says the Semi is roughly 50% cheaper to run per mile than diesel in high fuel-cost states like California, and about 20% cheaper on a nationwide basis.
The European truck market is well established, with several major manufacturers already selling battery-powered heavy-duty models. Tesla is entering a competitive space.
Wall Street currently holds a consensus Hold rating on TSLA, based on 11 Buys, 12 Holds, and 3 Sells over the past three months. The average price target sits at $377.08, reflecting a 3.18% implied upside from the current price.
