Sberbank Gets Approval to Offer Crypto Exchange Services
On October 12, the Bank of Russia included Sberbank in its list of crypto exchange organizations. Under Russia’s new regulatory framework, the registration will enable the bank to deliver services related to digital currency circulation and exchange.
Sberbank is to create its first crypto products by December 1 and make them available in existing interfaces for the user. That could help people who already use banking services to continue using them, without migrating to a separate crypto-native platform.
The latest one makes Russia the top country for crypto exchange operations with a total of nine. Other accredited firms include T-Invest Lab, part of the T-Technologies group together with T-Bank.

Sberbank Also Secures Digital Depository Status
The exchange was added to Russia’s digital depository register earlier this month, which is why it is included on Sberbank’s list of exchanges. There are different functions shipped with the two registrations.
Crypto exchange operators can provide services for buying and selling digital currencies, whereas digital depositories can be used to record crypto asset ownership and transactions, along with related rights to digital currencies.
There are currently five organizations, VTB and Atomyze among them, in Russia’s depository register.
Russia Opens Regulated Crypto Infrastructure to Banks
The registrations follow the introduction of Russia’s broader legal framework for digital currencies and digital rights, which took effect on September 1.
Under the framework, crypto transactions can use existing financial-market infrastructure, including brokers, exchanges and trustees, alongside newly authorized crypto exchanges and digital depositories.
Banks and other eligible organizations have been able to apply for the required registrations since October 5. Some established financial institutions can use a simplified notification process that may allow registration within one day.

Dec. 1 Could Mark a Bigger Crypto Expansion
Sberbank is not alone when it comes to getting ready to launch crypto services in December. It’s coming as Russia is in the midst of creating a central bank-regulated framework for crypto trading, custody, and other digital-asset services.
As an exchange and depository bank, Sberbank would have the opportunity to offer its users access to a trading service next to its custody and ownership-record business in the financial market.
The upcoming launch in December will serve as a significant milestone in the company’s broadened use of cryptocurrency in customer platforms.
