Robinhood reported that its crypto trading volume jumped 61% in August, rising from $10.9 billion in July to $17.5 billion. The increase came after a slow July but still left activity well below where it was a year ago.

Despite the monthly bounce, volume remains 38% lower than August 2025, when $28.1 billion changed hands. That gap shows the recovery has limits.
Bitstamp, the crypto exchange Robinhood acquired in June 2025, handled $10.1 billion of August’s total. That was a 53% rise from July, though still 30% below August 2025.
The Robinhood app generated $7.4 billion in crypto volume. That was a 72% rise month-on-month but a 46% drop from the same time last year.
Together, the two platforms averaged around $565 million in daily crypto volume during August.
Prediction Markets Outpace Crypto Growth
While crypto showed a solid monthly rebound, Robinhood’s event contracts business is growing at a far faster pace annually.
Customers traded 4.7 billion event contracts in August. That is about 15 times the 300 million contracts processed in August 2025, even though it was down 23% from July.
In the second quarter, event contract revenue hit $156 million, surpassing the $100 million earned from crypto transactions. Crypto transaction revenue fell 38% year-on-year in that same period.
Robinhood offers event contracts through exchanges including Kalshi and ForecastEx, as well as Rothera, a joint venture launched in June. By the time Robinhood released its second-quarter results, Rothera had processed more than 3.5 billion contracts.
Lawmakers in the US have introduced more than 10 prediction-market bills since January, with debate ongoing over whether certain contracts should be treated as regulated derivatives or gambling products.
Robinhood Chain Sees Growth and Growing Pains
Robinhood’s blockchain network, Robinhood Chain, also showed activity. Decentralized exchanges on the network recorded around $1.6 billion in daily volume as of September 1, up 61% in four days.
The network went live on its public mainnet on July 1, offering tokenized stocks in more than 120 countries, though not to US customers.
On September 4, Robinhood Chain suffered a 14-minute outage that halted block production. The company said no customer balances were lost and conventional brokerage accounts were not affected.
Robinhood’s total platform assets reached $384 billion at the end of August, up 26% from a year earlier. Funded customers totaled 28.6 million, and margin balances climbed to $21.5 billion.
Following the August operating update, Robinhood shares closed 0.83% lower. Analysts at Mizuho and StoneX raised their price targets for the stock during the same week. The company’s next earnings report is expected on November 4.
