Key Takeaways

  • Warren Jenson joins Polymarket as CFO, reporting to CEO Shayne Coplan.
  • The former Amazon finance chief also serves on Ripple’s board.
  • The appointment comes as Polymarket expands its U.S. and global operations.

Polymarket Adds Finance Leadership as Business Expands

Polymarket is putting its financial and capital strategy under Warren Jenson as it scales its U.S. exchange and international platform. The prediction market company named him chief financial officer on Sept. 10, reporting to founder and CEO Shayne Coplan. His assignment includes leading the finance organization and strengthening long-range planning.

Coplan tied the appointment to a broader effort to add senior leadership as the business grows. He said: “We’re assembling the team to match the opportunity in front of us.” Jenson previously held the CFO position at Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), Electronic Arts, Delta Air Lines, and NBC.

The appointment follows reports of substantial new investment in the company from Donald Trump Jr.’s investment firm 1789 Capital. The firm was reportedly investing approximately $300 million as part of a roughly $1 billion funding round that would value Polymarket at about $21 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Jenson Brings Ripple Board Experience

Jenson’s connection to the cryptocurrency industry predates his new executive position through his service on Ripple’s board of directors. The digital asset infrastructure company appointed him to its board on May 19, 2023, and named him audit committee chair. That committee oversees the formal auditing process for Ripple’s operations.

At the time of his appointment, Ripple highlighted his experience managing financial operations across several industries for more than three decades. CEO Brad Garlinghouse emphasized transparency and accountability in explaining the selection. Jenson similarly described transparency as a priority for cryptocurrency companies seeking a larger role in financial services.

His career also includes leadership positions at Nielsen and Liveramp, adding experience in data and analytics businesses to his corporate finance background. At Liveramp, he led finance and international operations. Polymarket’s hiring announcement identifies Digitalocean and Dropbox alongside Ripple among the companies whose boards he currently serves on.

US Expansion Builds on Regulated Exchange Acquisition

Polymarket’s domestic expansion follows its acquisition of QCEX, a licensed derivatives exchange and clearinghouse, for $112 million in 2025. That transaction established a foundation for its return to the U.S. market. Polymarket describes its U.S. venue as a designated contract market regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

The platform allows participants to trade shares tied to event outcomes, with winning shares settling at $1 and losing shares at zero. Prices reflect market-implied probabilities that change as participants buy and sell. Each contract’s resolution rules determine the conditions required for a payout, including any applicable deadline or specified data source.

Cryptocurrency price contracts illustrate how those markets translate trading activity into forecasts about specific outcomes over a defined period. On Sept. 12, Polymarket traders assigned a 64% probability to bitcoin reaching $80,000 by Sept. 30, under rules that ignore price action before the market opened Sept. 7. The broader September bitcoin price event had recorded approximately $5.17 million in trading volume at that snapshot.
