Dusk Introduces Encrypted Covenants
Dusk is the first live phase of Nillion’s seven-stage Encrypted Markets roadmap. Built around Ethereum, it introduces Covenants, which allow users to create conditional instructions and post them onchain in encrypted form.
A trader can pre-save an action and trigger it based on a price level and a future time period. In such a state, the instruction is sealed and observers will note that there is an encrypted Covenant present, but they will not be able to visualize what is inside. When the trigger is reached, Nillion’s decentralized nodes are there to help un-lock on chain the instruction for it to settle.
The system does not rely on a single operator to decide when an instruction becomes accessible. But, once posted, Covenants are not cancelable. An instruction that doesn’t happen at all can expire without being publicized.
A $50,000 ETH Trade Triggered by BTC
Nillion explained an example of cross asset trading. A trader could prepare an order to buy $50,000 worth of ETH when BTC reaches $80,000. As long as Bitcoin is not at that level, the ETH trading instruction is still encrypted on chain.
If the BTC reaches the target, it triggers and the instruction can be unlocked. The trigger can be different to the asset that is eventually traded. This may help traders develop more advanced conditional strategies than regular stop or limit orders.

Hidden Instructions Target Onchain Information Leakage
The initial release of Dusk features price-based conditions for a select list of crypto assets as well as a 30-day window. It has already tested a sealed stop mechanism end to end, which means a stop level will not be visible until activated, Nillion said. The same infrastructure has been used for a sealed bid auction also.
This is to prevent intentions to trade from becoming apparent before they happen. In a transparent blockchain, public exposure of orders or strategies may provide information for other participants which can allow trading in advance of the initial order. At that time, dusk tries to preserve that same information.
Ethereum Mainnet Rollout Planned for September
The Sepolia testnet has been released on Dusk. The first applications powered by Dusk will be available on testnet before mid-September, Nillion expects. The project plans to deploy its contracts to Ethereum mainnet, with node network bootstrapping expected to follow, as of late September.
Dusk is the initial milestone of Nillion’s Encrypted Markets vision, embedding the project’s core principle: that trade instructions remain encrypted onchain until they are ready to be executed.
