Jim Cramer used his Mad Money show to lay out a framework for the rest of 2026. His message: stop hunting for one winning stock and start with the trends driving the market.
The S&P 500 closed at an all-time high of 7,737. The Dow crossed 54,000 for the first time. At those levels, Cramer says picking winners gets harder without a bigger picture.
“I love themes. They help you craft a portfolio of stocks with the wind at their backs, not in their faces,” he said on the show.
He identified five themes based on the latest earnings season. Each one connects to real data coming out of company results.
The Consumer Is Still Spending
The first theme is the resilient consumer. Cramer said earnings from banks, travel firms, and retailers told a different story than the headlines.
“We’ve been told over and over that the consumer’s totally stretched,” he said. “The companies are saying otherwise.”
His picks here are Capital One and American Express on the credit side, along with Ralph Lauren and Williams-Sonoma in retail. American Express reported a 9% rise in card member spending in Q2, its best growth in three years.
Capital One is down 12.17% and American Express is down 8.54% in 2026. Williams-Sonoma is the standout, up 34%.
AI Equipment, Cybersecurity, M&A, and Healthcare
Cramer’s second theme focuses on AI infrastructure. He wants chip equipment makers, not memory buyers. He named Lam Research, KLA, and Applied Materials as his picks.
Bank of America raised its global cloud spending estimate to $1.18 trillion in 2027 and rates all three as buys. Applied Materials is up over 100% in 2026. Lam Research is up 68%.
The third theme is cybersecurity. Cramer said fears that AI would reduce demand for security software turned out to be wrong. Threats have grown, not shrunk.
CrowdStrike reported revenue up 26% to $1.39 billion in its most recent quarter. Palo Alto Networks is up over 102% in 2026. CrowdStrike has gained 89%.
The fourth theme is mergers and acquisitions. Cramer expects companies to move on deals while the regulatory climate stays friendly. He named Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as his plays. Goldman’s investment bank posted $3.4 billion in revenue in its latest quarter, its highest since 2021.
The fifth theme is healthcare. Cramer highlighted Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson as ways to diversify outside of tech. Eli Lilly shares are up nearly 39% since its first-quarter report, driven by demand for its obesity and diabetes drugs.
Cramer acknowledged that each theme carries risks. High valuations on cybersecurity stocks, a slowdown in cloud spending, or a weaker jobs market could each hurt the relevant picks.
“You can pick a travel stock, a semiconductor capital equipment maker, a cybersecurity company, something that works in the M&A world, or medtech and you’ll greatly increase your chances of making money for the rest of 2026,” he said.
