Marvell Technology (MRVL) reports its fiscal second-quarter earnings on August 27, and the options market is not playing it quiet. Traders are pricing in a move of roughly 14% in either direction, or about $30 per stock, following the results.

MRVL closed at $222.02 on Friday. The stock has climbed more than 161% year-to-date, fueled by strong demand for its custom AI chips and optical networking products.
The 14% implied move sits above Marvell’s four-quarter average post-earnings reaction of around 12%. Past moves have ranged from 3% to nearly 19%, so the range of outcomes is wide.
What Wall Street Is Expecting
Analysts are forecasting Q2 FY27 earnings per share of $0.93, a 39% jump from the same period last year. Revenue is expected to come in at $2.71 billion, up about 35% year-over-year.
The bar is high. Marvell’s last quarter delivered $2.42 billion in revenue, up 27.6% year-over-year, with adjusted EPS of $0.80, right in line with estimates.
Goldman Sachs analyst James Schneider raised his price target on MRVL to $195 from $180 ahead of earnings but kept his Hold rating. He expects investors to focus on Marvell’s data center momentum, hyperscaler capital spending, and optical networking demand.
Schneider is also watching for updates on a new custom AI chip customer and whether Marvell raises its revenue guidance for calendar years 2026 and 2027.
MRVL trades at a forward P/E of 54.85x, well above the sector median of 24.37x and its own five-year average of 37.48x. That premium leaves little room for any miss or soft guidance.
Institutional Interest Remains Strong
Several institutional investors added to MRVL positions in the second quarter. Zevenbergen Capital Investments picked up a new stake worth roughly $26.7 million. Decker Retirement Planning bought 23,459 units valued at around $6.99 million. Aaron Wealth Advisors raised its position by nearly 45%.
Institutions now own 83.51% of Marvell’s outstanding stock.
On the flip side, insiders sold 34,481 units worth approximately $7.98 million over the past quarter. CFO Daniel Durn sold 2,250 units in June at an average of $281.01. Those sales were made under pre-arranged 10b5-1 plans, mostly to cover tax obligations tied to vesting equity.
Nvidia’s $2 billion investment in Marvell continues to draw attention as a vote of confidence in its AI chip roadmap.
The broad analyst community remains bullish. Wall Street holds a Strong Buy consensus with 24 Buys and five Holds. The average price target sits at $271.33, representing about 22% upside from current levels. Some targets range as high as $365.
Marvell set its own Q2 guidance range at $0.88 to $0.98 EPS heading into the print.
