IonQ (IONQ) stock jumped about 6% Wednesday to roughly $43 after announcing a new deployment with Nvidia. The stock traded as high as $45.93 earlier in the session after closing Tuesday at $40.74.
The catalyst is a partnership that will place IonQ’s Superion 256 inside the Nvidia Accelerated Quantum Research Center. IonQ says it will be the first on-premise quantum computing system deployed at the facility.

That distinction matters because this is more than a software integration. IonQ’s quantum hardware will sit alongside Nvidia’s AI infrastructure and participate directly in hybrid quantum-classical research.
Superion 256 Will Connect Directly to Nvidia Hardware
IonQ’s Superion 256 will be linked to an Nvidia GB200 NVL72 system through NVQLink. Workloads will be orchestrated using Nvidia’s open CUDA-Q platform, allowing different tasks to move between quantum and classical processors.
The research program will focus on hybrid software development and large-scale system prototyping. IonQ and Nvidia also plan to produce open research and guidance covering future AI and quantum-GPU system design.
IonQ introduced Superion 256 earlier this month as its sixth-generation quantum platform. The company says the system is available to order now, with first customer deliveries expected in 2027.
Installation at Nvidia’s research center is also scheduled for next year. That means Wednesday’s announcement is a forward-looking deployment rather than an immediately revenue-generating commercial rollout.
IonQ and Nvidia already have a research relationship. Earlier this month, IonQ, Nvidia, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee published work combining generative AI with distributed quantum algorithms.
The new deployment deepens that relationship by putting IonQ hardware directly into Nvidia’s research environment.
Nvidia Partnership Strengthens IonQ’s Quantum Story
IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi has previously described the company’s ambition to become a major platform provider in quantum computing. The Nvidia relationship gives investors a clearer example of how IonQ could fit into future data-center architecture.
The key idea is hybrid computing. Quantum processors would handle certain specialized calculations while Nvidia GPUs continue performing AI and other classical workloads.
That model could prove important because useful quantum systems are unlikely to operate entirely on their own. Error correction, scheduling and much of the surrounding computing still depend heavily on conventional processors.
IonQ has also recently expanded Superion internationally. On September 21, the company announced a deal with South Korea’s SDT involving a Superion 256 system and a quantum memory module.
The main risk is that commercial quantum computing remains at an early stage. Technical progress does not guarantee near-term revenue, and companies still need to prove that hybrid quantum systems can deliver useful performance advantages at acceptable cost.
IONQ also remains highly volatile. Wednesday’s rise follows large daily swings throughout September, meaning investors are assigning substantial value to future growth that still depends on technology development and customer adoption.
For now, the Nvidia deployment is the clearest catalyst. IonQ’s Superion 256 will become the first quantum processor installed at Nvidia’s NVAQC, giving the company a high-profile role in research aimed at combining GPUs and QPUs into future quantum supercomputers.
