Corning stock climbed over 7% to around $165 on Tuesday after Verizon announced a multi-year, multi-billion dollar supply agreement with the optical networking company.
The deal covers the period from 2027 to 2032. Under the agreement, Corning will supply Verizon with more than 80 million miles of high-density optical fiber and connectivity solutions.
Verizon said the deal is designed to expand nationwide consumer broadband access and support generative AI compute infrastructure. The company is targeting 40 to 50 million broadband passings, with fiber-to-the-home and local business connectivity both in scope.
Verizon CEO Kyle Malady said the deal allows the company to “continue building the network of the future at an unprecedented scale.” He added that Verizon is building a converged architecture that combines mobile and broadband while serving AI hyperscalers.
The fiber infrastructure will also serve as a backbone connecting data centers across major long-haul corridors, a key part of the current AI buildout.
A String of Major Deals
This agreement is the latest in a run of large contracts for Corning. In June, the company announced a multi-billion dollar agreement with Amazon to produce optical fiber for data centers.
In May, Nvidia made an investment worth up to $3.2 billion in Corning to boost optical networking manufacturing in Texas and North Carolina.
Back in January, Corning locked in a $6 billion deal to supply Meta Platforms with cabling, optical fiber, and connectivity solutions for data centers.
The Verizon deal builds on a 30-year partnership between the two companies. Products covered include Corning’s Contour Flow Cable, which lets more fiber be deployed through existing conduit pathways.
Mike O’Day, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Corning Optical Communications, said the company is “thrilled to deepen” the Verizon relationship and provide optical innovations that link AI data centers while expanding home broadband access.
Market Reaction
Other optical networking names moved higher alongside Corning on Tuesday. Ciena gained 1.9%, Coherent added 2.9%, and Lumentum rose 2%. Verizon stock added around 0.8% to $50.46.
Corning posted better-than-expected second-quarter earnings in late July, though guidance came in lighter than analysts had hoped. CEO Wendell Weeks said at the time that Corning was “entering a new phase of accelerating growth.”
The Verizon agreement appears to back that view, giving Corning a multi-year revenue runway well into the next decade.
