TLDR

  • Novogratz says Bitcoin needs the CLARITY Act, Fed rate cuts, and a new buyer base to reach $100,000
  • He expects Bitcoin to trade between $60,000 and $80,000 for the rest of 2026
  • Speculative traders have moved to AI stocks, semiconductor plays, and sports betting
  • He puts the CLARITY Act at roughly a 60/40 chance of passing this year
  • Long-term, he sees Bitcoin holding above $60,000 due to its store-of-value narrative

Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital, says Bitcoin reaching $100,000 is possible but not likely without three specific conditions coming together at the same time.

Speaking on a podcast this week, Novogratz laid out his near-term framework clearly. His base case is that Bitcoin stays in a range between $60,000 and $80,000 for the rest of the year.

Three Catalysts Needed for $100K

The first catalyst is the CLARITY Act, a crypto regulatory bill currently stalled in Senate negotiations. Debates over ethics language and DeFi provisions have slowed its progress.

Senator Cynthia Lummis has warned that if the bill does not clear the Senate before August recess, the next realistic window may not come until 2030. That delay would keep institutional investors on the sidelines.

The second catalyst is Federal Reserve rate cuts. Novogratz said he does not expect cuts this year, which removes one key support for a rally.

The third is a renewed buyer base. Right now, the speculative traders who once drove crypto prices higher have moved on.

“Every young kid that used to buy Solana is buying Hynix or some memory company,” Novogratz said. He pointed to semiconductor stocks, same-day options, Korean equities, and sports betting as the new destinations for fast money.

Michael Saylor has made a similar point, estimating that the AI fundraising cycle is pulling roughly 1% to 2% of demand away from Bitcoin.

Where Bitcoin’s Floor Sits

Despite his caution on the upside, Novogratz was firm about the downside. He believes Bitcoin holds $60,000 because too many people have bought into its store-of-value argument.

He also pointed to the U.S. national debt, now above $39.5 trillion, as a long-term reason to hold Bitcoin. “This is why all portfolios still need some BTC,” he said.

Novogratz described the current crypto mood as simply “meh.” He compared it to the gold and silver bubble, saying speculative peaks look like this before the asset class settles into a different phase.

He is not bearish on the technology itself. He said he is currently working on deals with five or six large traditional financial institutions to build crypto infrastructure, including automatic settlement and internet-based value transfer.

His broader view is that the next phase of crypto growth may be less about hype and more about infrastructure. Real institutions building behind the scenes could create a more stable market once the speculative crowd returns.

For now, the key number to watch is $80,000. If Bitcoin breaks above that level, Novogratz says $100,000 becomes the next major target.
