Brazilian Federal Deputy Submits a Bill to Allow Workers to be Paid in Crypto

Brazilian Federal Deputy Luizão Goulart submitted a bill to legalize payments to be made in cryptocurrency to the public and private sector workers, according to a local report. According to him, this measure will help solve the state’s cash problem.

The Brazilian congressman presented a bill to the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies on Friday that allows part of the salaries of Brazilian workers to be paid in crypto.

According to the bill, both private and public works can opt to be paid in crypto and the percentage of payment to be made in digital assets is to be chosen by the workers only and not be pressured by the employer. A translated version of the bill says,

“The limits of the percentage of payment in cryptocurrencies will be of the worker’s free choice. Any imposition by the employer will be prohibited.”

Goulart cited the decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies removing the reliance on a single entity or individual as the reason for his argument.

“Our proposition is in line with this modernity, establishing that, optionally, the worker can receive part of their remuneration in any type of cryptocurrency in force in the Financial Market.”

Goulart further said that the main reason for this proposal is to collaborate in solving the ‘cash’ problem of the Federal, State, and Municipal governments.

“The Fourth Digital Revolution is already a Global reality. It is only up to us to adapt, reinvent and progress along this wonderful path of Modernity, aiming to establish a Global Economy that facilitates the daily lives of citizens and, above all, provides a good quality of life for all.”

If approved, the bill will be passed to become law within 90 days.
