XRP just completed a golden cross on the Bitcoin chart, and bulls are questioning if now is the time given the present market conditions. The MA 50 on the 4-hour chart crossed above the MA 200, making a short-term golden cross.
The golden cross, deemed a bullish signal, coincided with a drop on XRP/BTC‘s 4-hour chart, marking six red candlesticks in a row, taking bulls by surprise.
This, however, doesn’t negate XRP’s short-term outperformance against Bitcoin. Since September 16, XRP has steadily risen against Bitcoin, surpassing major moving averages (50 and 200) on both the 4-hour and the daily charts.
XRP reached a high of $1.65 on September 25, a move that coincided with the first 2026 daily golden cross on its USD chart. The surge coincided with the strongest high-value activity in about a month, recording 1,917 whale transactions worth $100,000. Network growth also spiked to 3,647 new XRP wallets. Bitwise filed an updated XRP ETF registration with the SEC on September 18, with XRP marking four straight days of gains around this timing.
Timing says no?
At the time of writing, XRP was down 1.19% in the last 24 hours to $1.55 after reaching a high of $1.62 in Friday’s session.
While XRP is currently seeing profit-taking, a few signals suggest that the token may still have room to run.
According to Ali, a crypto analyst, the URPD indicator shows relatively little resistance ahead until $1.60, where roughly 2.50 billion XRP previously changed hands, highlighting potential profit-taking near this level before the next major move.
XRP appears to have completed the right shoulder of a major inverse head-and-shoulders pattern on its USD daily chart. With the $1.60 level in focus, a decisive break above the neckline could confirm the pattern and trigger another 30% rally toward $2.
The 365-day MVRV for XRP, despite the rally in price, is at -11.75, which means the average trader who has been active in the last year is facing losses. The downside risk is limited, which is good news, and traders can bounce back if demand stays strong.
In just five days, whales have accumulated more than 470 million XRP, worth around $724 million, and they continue to stack XRP in expectation of the next move.
