Securitize (SECZ) stock jumped as much as 12% Wednesday and reached a record high of $14.57 as investors continued betting on the growth of tokenized financial assets. The stock has climbed roughly 170% since hitting a 52-week low of $5.39 in August.
The latest rally builds on gains following Cantor Fitzgerald’s decision to initiate coverage of Securitize with an Overweight rating and a $21.20 price target. That target represented about 63% upside from Tuesday’s $13 closing price.
SECZ has also benefited from a major change in the U.S. regulatory backdrop for tokenized stocks. The SEC introduced temporary exemptions last week designed to allow certain onchain trading venues to offer tokenized versions of U.S.-listed stocks under defined conditions.
Cantor Sees Securitize as Tokenization Infrastructure
Cantor’s investment case centers on Securitize providing infrastructure across much of the digital-securities lifecycle. Its services cover areas including issuance, ownership records, distribution, custody, trading and settlement.
The relationship between the two companies extends beyond analyst coverage. Securitize and Cantor announced a partnership in July aimed at helping public companies conduct IPOs and follow-on offerings using blockchain-based infrastructure.
Securitize has also received expanded FINRA approval allowing its broker-dealer operation to custody tokenized securities and participate in underwriting and selling groups. That broadens the company’s ability to support securities from issuance through settlement.
The regulatory environment improved further on September 17 when the SEC introduced its Innovation Exemption. The temporary framework permits limited trading of tokenized National Market System stocks on qualifying onchain venues.
The framework is conditional and does not mean every tokenized-stock platform is automatically approved. Tokenized securities must preserve the rights attached to conventional stocks, while synthetic products that only track prices are excluded.
NYSE Deal Adds to Tokenization Momentum
A fresh industry catalyst arrived Wednesday when the New York Stock Exchange and Blockchain.com announced a memorandum of understanding covering tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs.
The proposed service would connect Blockchain.com users with the NYSE’s planned digital trading platform. It remains subject to regulatory approvals and has not yet launched.
Securitize could benefit indirectly as major exchanges and financial institutions invest more heavily in tokenized markets. NYSE had already entered an agreement with Securitize earlier this year involving its planned digital platform.
The company has also developed projects with firms including Jump Trading and Jupiter aimed at supporting regulated onchain public-equity trading.
The biggest risk is that investor expectations are now moving faster than the underlying market. Tokenization remains an early-stage business, while new platforms still face regulatory, adoption and execution hurdles.
Securitize also continues to face losses, cash burn and financing risks. A rapid rise in SECZ therefore increases the potential for sharp pullbacks if adoption develops more slowly than investors expect.
For now, the regulatory shift and Cantor’s $21.20 target remain the clearest drivers. Wednesday’s record high shows investors increasingly viewing Securitize as a potential infrastructure beneficiary if tokenized stocks move further into mainstream markets.
