A price divergence has emerged in the payments-focused altcoin market. The Stellar token (XLM) and XRP, historically linked by their shared technological roots and co-founder Jed McCaleb, are reacting differently to current market activity.
Fresh data by TradingView shows that XLM’s price rise is being powered by net buying momentum, while XRP’s advance is being held back by heavy technical resistance.
The key price dividing line this week has been the 50-week moving average (50-week MA). XLM broke above this level on volume and established itself around $0.2123–$0.2151, opening the way for its price to test the next local high at $0.2227.
At the same time, XRP’s advance ran into a similar 50-week MA around $1.55–$1.5730. Sellers blocked further movement, leaving a long upper wick on XRP’s chart and forcing the momentum indicator to flatten into a horizontal plateau.
Meanwhile, the assets’ market scales reveal a colossal gap: XRP holds fifth place in the global ranking with a market capitalization of $97.62 billion and a trading volume of $7 billion, while XLM sits only in 16th place with a market capitalization of $7.41 billion and a trading volume of $424.06 million.

Perhaps the different behavior of the charts is rooted in on-chain nuances within the networks that may be influencing the order book. Stellar currently has $3.33 billion in real RWA capital distributed across 21,124 active addresses, while the XRP Ledger demonstrates complete centralization: just 264 wallets share $456.64 million, and the bulk of the supply is locked in custodial storage.
As a result, Stellar processes $8.94 billion in stablecoin volume every day, creating constant retail demand to buy XLM to pay fees. The XRP chart is stuck below its 50-week MA simply because its actual buying flow is trailing Stellar’s current pace.
