Microsoft stock is trading at $510, and Stifel just bumped its price target to $530 from $450 after its analyst met with company executives this week. However, the firm is sticking with a Hold rating, not a Buy.
Analyst Brad Reback said he sees potential for further upside, but only if conditions shift. He doesn’t expect the stock to re-rate unless Azure growth meaningfully re-accelerates or capital spending growth slows below Azure’s growth rate.
His key concern is the competitive pressure. Google is gaining market share, and the OpenAI partnership is no longer providing the edge it once did.
The meetings included senior Microsoft finance executives, covering topics like monetization strategy, data center efficiency, and AI product rollouts.
One of the key topics was M365 Copilot. Management said adoption picked up strongly in the second half of FY2026, with weekly engagement now comparable to core tools like Outlook and Teams.
Reback noted that customers are moving from small pilot projects to full-scale deployments. That’s a meaningful shift, and it’s what drove most of the optimism in his updated note.
Copilot and Pricing Strategy
Management also discussed its approach to pricing. Microsoft is using a seat-plus-consumption model, with outcome-based pricing not expected anytime soon.
Premium upsells in M365, including E5, M365 Copilot, and E7, are driving moderate revenue acceleration. With seat growth leaning toward lower-priced tiers, management said average revenue per user from premium upgrades matters more than raw volume.
Reback highlighted that management plans to be selective on pricing, mainly pushing in areas where Microsoft has a clear product advantage.
On the capital spending side, management said it is focused on improving data center efficiency to unlock more capacity for quick monetization. Reback noted this could limit margin pressure more than he had expected earlier this year.
Azure and Broader Wall Street View
Azure’s growth rate climbed to 43% in Q4 FY2026, up from 39% the prior quarter. Guidance for Q1 FY2027 is set at 45%.
BofA Securities raised its Microsoft price target to $600, citing Azure’s acceleration and the company’s AI growth strategy.
KeyBanc kept its Overweight rating and a $600 price target following Microsoft’s recent segment reporting restatement.
Microsoft is also consolidating its three business segments into two for FY2027, aimed at better reflecting how management evaluates operations, particularly around AI infrastructure and cloud productivity.
Microsoft-backed G42, an Abu Dhabi-based AI firm, is exploring a multibillion-dollar fundraising round, though no final decisions have been made.
Wall Street overall holds a Strong Buy consensus on MSFT, with 32 Buy ratings and one Hold. The average price target of $571.41 implies 14.4% upside from current levels. MSFT stock is up just 4% year-to-date.
