Prominent crypto trader DonAlt, who gained recognition in the community after accurately predicting XRP’s 700% rally in 2024, has officially announced that he has started buying Ethereum (ETH).
The trade appears paradoxical even to the analyst himself, as he opened the position directly at local resistance on the weekly chart, consciously breaking the classic rules of technical analysis to pursue his long-term strategy.
Why DonAlt buys Ethereum despite a not-optimal price
Ethereum is currently consolidating around $1,878, just below the local resistance zone between $2,000 and $2,200. Short-term traders usually take profits at this point rather than open long positions because of the high risk of a pullback.
However, DonAlt explained his decision by pointing to the psychological discomfort of staying out of the market after waiting too long for the right entry point.
“Bought some and will buy some more in the coming days. Feels a bit [unreasonable] to buy resistance but I feel less comfy not having it than having some at not the optimal price. Will buy more if we retest green but have been waiting long enough,” the trader commented, adding that he was fully prepared for any scenario.
Despite the spontaneous first step, the investor has a clear plan in case the price falls. If Ethereum corrects, he intends to add to his position at the strong green support zone located slightly below current levels, around $1,750–$1,800.
Market observers add that Ethereum is currently maintaining its structure far more confidently than Bitcoin. BTC itself remains stuck in a low-volatility range near $63,000 following the release of the latest U.S. inflation data (CPI), giving the altcoin the necessary room to maneuver and potentially move toward higher targets, including previous all-time highs above $4,000.

The trader also accompanied his ETH entry with criticism of retail investors. DonAlt mocked crypto communities for their emotional instability and extreme behavior.
According to him, when the market rises, the crowd talks about an endless bull run, but at the slightest pullback, it begins to panic and declare the industry dead instead of calmly taking advantage of discounted prices during declines.
For DonAlt, Ethereum is also a significant and deeply personal asset. He launched his career with a legendary ETH long from $84 on BitMEX.
Although he still calls that trade pure luck because of an accidental mistake involving the size of leverage, today’s purchase looks like a pragmatic move by a major market player who simply does not want to miss out on a new large-scale trend.
