TLDR

  • Ripple invested in ZILO and Licuido to expand institutional digital asset infrastructure on the XRP Ledger.
  • The investments add regulated transfer agency, issuance, and collateral mobility capabilities to the XRPL ecosystem.
  • Ripple said RLUSD supports delivery-versus-payment transactions for tokenized assets on the XRP Ledger.
  • XRPL has processed over 4 billion transactions and supports more than 7 million active wallets since 2012.
  • Ripple said tokenized funds on XRPL can be issued, settled, and used as collateral through onchain infrastructure.

Ripple is expanding its focus on institutional digital asset infrastructure as tokenized finance moves from pilot projects to production. Ripple President Monica Long said financial institutions are increasingly adopting tokenized assets for real-world use cases, while the company announced strategic investments aimed at strengthening capital markets infrastructure on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

The latest announcement builds on Ripple’s recent efforts to expand tokenization, custody, settlement, and liquidity services for institutional clients. The company said its investments in ZILO and Licuido will add regulated transfer agency technology, issuance capabilities, and collateral mobility to its blockchain infrastructure.

Ripple Expands Capital Markets Strategy on XRPL

Ripple announced strategic investments in ZILO and Licuido, two companies focused on digital asset infrastructure for institutional markets. The investments expand existing partnerships and are designed to support regulated issuance, transfer agency services, and collateral movement on the XRP Ledger.

The company said ZILO provides digital transfer agency and fund administration technology for asset managers, custodians, and transfer agents. Licuido offers a platform for issuing, distributing, and trading tokenized financial assets while allowing them to move as digital collateral through onchain settlement.

Ripple stated that its infrastructure combines token issuance, custody, collateral management, multi-currency investment capabilities, and atomic settlement. RLUSD serves as the regulated cash asset for delivery-versus-payment transactions on the platform.

Monica Long described the shift taking place across institutional markets. She said,

“In the last year, we’ve seen the veritable light switch flip – from bank pilots to production, from issuing tokenized assets like money market funds and liquidity funds to using them.”

She added, “Institutional capital markets are moving in one direction — onchain 24/7.”

Company Focuses on Tokenized Assets and Institutional Adoption

Ripple said institutions continue searching for infrastructure that supports faster settlement, collateral efficiency, and regulated record keeping. The company noted that tokenized funds can be used as collateral immediately after issuance while transactions settle atomically on the XRP Ledger.

Nigel Khakoo, Senior Vice President of Trading and Markets at Ripple, said tokenization alone does not complete the process of modernizing financial markets.

He said,

“Tokenization of assets is only the starting point: the real value lies in what can be done with a token, including buying, selling, and settling trades instantly, or using it as collateral to borrow, lend, or post margin.”

Khakoo added that partnerships with Aviva Investors, Franklin Templeton, and DBS demonstrate growing interest in deploying tokenized fund structures at institutional scale. Ripple said ZILO and Licuido provide the regulated infrastructure needed to expand issuance, collateral management, and digital asset utility.

Earlier this year, Ripple announced a collaboration with Aviva Investors to tokenize traditional fund structures on the XRP Ledger while working with ZILO and Licuido on regulated issuance, custody, distribution, and additional use cases.

Partners Detail Plans for Digital Capital Markets

As a result, ZILO said Ripple’s investment will support the development of transfer agency infrastructure for tokenized fund shares. The company said asset managers require digital record-keeping systems that integrate with blockchain-based financial products while maintaining regulatory standards.

Phil Goffin, founder and chief executive officer of ZILO, said,

“As fund structures move onchain, transfer agents and asset managers need infrastructure that can handle tokenized share classes without adding operational risk.”

Licuido said its platform allows institutions to move tokenized assets beyond issuance by enabling distribution, settlement, and collateral use within digital capital markets.

Brian Lynch, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Licuido, said, “Tokenization, by itself, only solves part of the challenge of unlocking liquidity.” He added that Ripple’s investment will help expand the company’s collateral marketplace on the XRP Ledger.
