HOOD stock fell after Robinhood confirmed that CEO Vlad Tenev’s X account was compromised and used to promote a fake memecoin tied to Robinhood Chain.

Robinhood CEO’s X Account Promotes Fake VLAD Token

Robinhood Markets shares fell 6.20% after the X account of CEO Vlad Tenev was hacked to promote a memecoin called Vladhood, trading under the ticker VLAD. The post claimed the token was linked to Robinhood’s blockchain project.

The post said Robinhood was launching Vladhood as the “official Robinhood Chain mascot.” It also claimed the VLAD token would be listed in the Robinhood app, creating immediate concern among users and market watchers.

A similar message did not appear on Robinhood’s official X account or Robinhood Crypto’s account. That gap raised early doubts about whether the announcement came from the company.

Robinhood later confirmed that Tenev’s account had been compromised. The company said,

“We’re working with X to restore access and the post has been removed.”

Robinhood Flags Token as Potential Scam

Robinhood moved quickly to warn users after the post gained attention. The company said the VLAD memecoin and related posts were a “potential scam.”

The blockchain explorer for Robinhood Chain also flagged the token as a potential scam. The token was deployed through a contract name linked to PonsLaunchFactory and had recorded about 1,868 transactions after launch.

The hacked post included a contract address beginning with 0x92d. The message attempted to connect the token to Robinhood Chain, which launched earlier this month as the company expanded deeper into blockchain-based products.

Triple-A Hot Wallets Drained of $9.7 Million Across Six Chains: Here’s What Peckshield Found

Triple-A Hot Wallets Drained of $9.7 Million Across Six Chains: Here’s What Peckshield Found

July 25, 2026

Robinhood Chain went live on July 1 and operates as an Ethereum Layer 2 built on the Arbitrum Orbit stack. The network has already become active among memecoin traders, with activity led by higher-risk tokens.

Tenev had previously written that “while we’re building Robinhood Chain to be the best chain for RWA … it works great for memes too.” That earlier post made the fake VLAD promotion appear more believable to some users before Robinhood denied it.

Robinhood Chain Activity Remains High

Robinhood Chain is processing roughly 6 million transactions per day, showing strong early activity less than a month after launch. The network has also recorded about $9 billion in cumulative decentralized exchange volume.

Much of that volume has reportedly come from memecoin trading rather than tokenized stock products. Cashcat has been among the memecoins gaining attention on the network.

The incident comes as Robinhood pushes further into blockchain infrastructure and tokenized assets. The company has positioned Robinhood Chain as a venue for real-world assets, while also supporting decentralized finance activity.

The hack could raise new security questions around executive accounts during periods of fast blockchain adoption. Social media accounts tied to public company leaders can influence users when posts appear to announce products, listings, or token launches.

HOOD stock’s decline also came as investors assessed broader risks around Robinhood Chain’s early memecoin activity. The fake VLAD post added another layer of scrutiny while the company works to build trust around its new blockchain platform.
