The combined market capitalization of major stablecoins fell from roughly $166 billion in March 2022 to $122 billion by September 2023, RWA.xyz data shows — a decline of over 26% as investors pulled money from the digital asset market.

Tether’s USDT fell from $78 billion to $65 billion between March and November 2022. For USDC, the downtrend took much longer to play out, falling from $55 billion in July 2022 to below $24 billion by November 2023, exacerbated by its banking partner Silicon Valley Bank’s collapse in 2023 March.

The implosion of TerraUSD, the algorithmic stablecoin of the Terra-Luna crypto project, also wiped out $18 billion from the stablecoin market.

The current decline is only a temporary setback in a long-term uptrend, one analyst said.

“The recent decline in stablecoin market cap represents a relatively small pullback in what we believe is a long-term growth market,” said Paul Howard, senior director at trading firm Wincent.

“Short-term fluctuations in liquidity are normal, but they don’t change our view that stablecoins will continue to play an increasingly important role in the digital asset ecosystem,” he added.

Increasing stablecoin competition

Looking beyond the headline decline, the trend appears more nuanced.

Part of the slowdown reflects a changing competitive landscape. As stablecoins move beyond crypto trading and into mainstream payments, new issuers have entered the market following regulatory progress such as the GENIUS Act in the U.S.

Coinbase Challenges Senator Warren’s Warning That CLARITY Act Threatens Sanctions Enforcement

Crypto exchange Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) pushed back after U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) warned that the CLARITY Act could pose national security risks, arguing her criticism mischaracterizes the legislation’s impact.

On July 11, Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad said on X that the lack of clear crypto rules leaves financial systems vulnerable. He argued the bill would bring digital asset platforms under stronger oversight.

“The argument that the CLARITY Act compromises national security gets it exactly backward,” Shirzad wrote, adding:

“Right now, the lack of clear rules is what leaves our financial system vulnerable because bad actors thrive in the shadows of regulatory uncertainty. This bill drags them into the light.”

He argued that regulatory uncertainty creates vulnerabilities and that the legislation would require crypto platforms to follow stronger national security standards.

His comment responded to Senator Warren’s X post on July 8 stating: “As currently drafted, the Clarity Act is a ticket to sanctions evasion.” Her criticism focused on concerns that the legislation could weaken safeguards designed to prevent illicit financial activity. The disagreement placed sanctions enforcement at the center of the broader fight over crypto market structure rules.

The Fight Over CLARITY Act Centers on Enforcement Powers

Coinbase’s defense of the legislation highlights provisions Shirzad said would strengthen government oversight of digital assets. He pointed to Treasury Department tools for tracking and blocking foreign adversaries attempting to evade sanctions. He also cited increased FinCEN funding aimed at combating state-sponsored cybercrime networks.

Shirzad also said the bill would allow crypto platforms to freeze suspicious transactions when law enforcement requests action. Coinbase presented these measures as evidence that the legislation creates obligations for digital asset companies. He added:

“This isn’t a free pass for crypto—it is a strict national security mandate designed to protect the U.S. financial system.”

Warren’s concerns focus on whether the current draft could weaken sanctions enforcement, keeping national security at the center of the debate.

CLARITY Act Faces Pressure as Lawmakers Debate Crypto Rules Before a Potential Long Delay

The CLARITY Act debate has gained urgency as lawmakers consider whether Congress can establish a digital asset regulatory framework before another prolonged gap in crypto oversight.

U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) warned the legislation could be Congress’ last major opportunity to pass comprehensive digital asset rules before 2030.

She also pushed back against Warren’s sanctions concerns earlier this month, arguing the CLARITY Act includes 16 illicit finance safeguards designed to prevent abuse. She said the bill would strengthen oversight through compliance requirements and enforcement tools, rejecting claims that the legislation would weaken protections against illicit finance.

The senator from Wyoming cautioned that failing to pass the legislation could delay the creation of a clear U.S. regulatory framework for digital assets for years. The concern centers on continued uncertainty for companies, regulators and enforcement agencies, while lawmakers remain divided over how the bill should balance crypto oversight with sanctions enforcement.

SecondFi explained a graduated process for a safe wallet recovery for users to check if he had his wallet back and move their funds later.

Wallet Export Feature Coming Next Week

First, a new wallet feature is called Quarantine Mode, where users will be able to check and see if they are involved in any information linked to any incident in the world, and report any problems to support.

Another development is likely to be the launch of a secure wallet export system that will enable users to transfer assets securely to hardware wallets or other platforms. Despite an advanced technical audience, this option is important for people who do not have the technical expertise, the company said.

Also, SecondFi is in the process of creating an on-chain claims portal and a recovery mechanism which could incorporate zero-knowledge proof technology. The goal is to verify eligibility while protecting user privacy throughout the claims process.

$16M ADA Attack Remains the Focus

Earlier this week, SecondFi announced that three different hacks by outsiders caused losses of around 16 million ADA for the wallet. The platform and members of the wider Cardano community have set up a dedicated recovery fund for the impacted users.

Assets acquired through emergency response will continue to be safeguarded and come into play in recovery activities as the team says.

Several security vendors are investigating the incident and source code. This is because SecondFi has said it won’t release the preliminary results until those investigations have concluded.

One of the biggest changes will be that SecondFi will not resume regular operations once their audits are completed.

Ripple Remedies Fight Gets Another SEC Filing as Final Penalty Debate Drags On is the kind of crypto story that looks simple at headline level but becomes more useful once you place it inside the wider market backdrop. The Ripple case has moved from existential industry drama into a more detailed fight over consequences, but that does not make it irrelevant.

The reason it deserves attention today is not that one announcement or filing magically changes the whole market. It is that the update adds another data point to a sector still trying to work out where capital, users, and regulation are actually moving.

For more details, visit the official Ripple platform.

TL;DR

The SEC filed supplemental authority in the Ripple remedies phase.

The filing updates the agency’s arguments around penalties and injunctions.

For XRP holders, the case remains a live sentiment driver even in its later stages.

Why This Filing Still Matters

The remedies stage focuses on what penalty or restrictions should follow the court’s earlier findings.

Ripple has pushed back on the SEC’s requested relief and framed the agency’s position as excessive.

Crypto legal stories can be exhausting, but they remain central to how the US market evolves. Every new filing adds another piece to the bigger question of how regulators, courts, exchanges, issuers, and users are going to coexist.

What Comes Next In The Case

The final outcome still matters for XRP sentiment and for how future crypto enforcement cases are negotiated.

The most important thing is not to overstate a single filing. The better read is to look at how each step narrows or widens the possible outcomes for the company involved and for the wider market.

For NewsBTC readers, the practical takeaway is to avoid treating this as an isolated headline. The stronger read is to connect it with the current market environment: liquidity is still selective, regulatory pressure has not disappeared, and the projects that keep shipping useful updates are the ones most likely to hold attention when the cycle gets noisy.

That does not mean the story should be stretched beyond what the source supports. The cleaner approach is to keep the facts tight, explain the mechanism, and show readers why it may matter if follow-up data confirms the same direction over the next few sessions.

Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) chairman Bilal bin Saqib has called for continued dialogue on the treatment of digital assets under Islamic law after meeting prominent scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani, who backed a ruling against purchases made with crypto.

In a Saturday post, Saqib said the discussion covered blockchain technology, digital assets, stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), as well as the need to protect Pakistanis from fraud, exploitation and financial harm.

Saqib said the different categories of digital assets merit “careful technical assessment alongside rigorous Shariah examination, rather than being viewed through a single lens.”

The exchange highlights tension between Pakistan’s push to build a regulated crypto market and religious objections that could shape public acceptance. Religious views could carry significant weight in Pakistan, where about 231.7 million people, or 96.35% of the population, identified as Muslim in the 2023 census.

Pakistan’s crypto framework meets religious scrutiny

According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Usmani and five other scholars signed an Islamic legal ruling issued by Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi, a prominent Islamic seminary, on Friday.

The ruling reportedly said purchases made with crypto, including stablecoins such as USDT, were not permitted because digital tokens did not qualify as recognized property or wealth under their interpretation of Islamic law.

Saqib did not directly challenge the claim. Instead, he called for scholars, regulators and industry participants to continue discussing distinctions among digital-asset categories.

“I shared that blockchain, digital assets, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets represent a broad spectrum of technologies and use cases,” he said.

The discussion comes as Pakistan shifts from years of restrictions toward a licensed virtual-asset sector. On April 15, the State Bank of Pakistan allowed banks to open accounts for virtual asset service providers (VASPs) licensed by the PVARA, ending an eight-year restriction on regulated institutions dealing with crypto.

The move followed the passage of Pakistan’s Virtual Assets Act 2026 in March, which established PVARA as the statutory body responsible for licensing and oversight of virtual asset activities.

Bitcoin might be in dire straits, but top institutional analysts believe a cyclical turnaround may be brewing.

According to Jurrien Timmer, director of global macro at Fidelity Investments, the leading cryptocurrency by market capitalization may have finally reached a key psychological and mathematical floor.

“As for Bitcoin, it too may be in an accumulation zone (in my view),” Timmer shared on X. “At $60k it’s getting ever closer to its power law support line.”

As reported by U.Today, Fidelity’s famous “Periodic Table of Investment Returns” recently showed alternative assets being plagued by extreme underperformance.

Emerging markets, small-caps, and Japanese equities claimed top spots on the 2026 leaderboard. In the meantime, Bitcoin, spot gold, and long-term treasuries clustered together at the absolute bottom.

The power law model

Historically, when the price hits the top of the corridor, the chart marks a “distribution zone”.

This occurred during the historic peaks of $1,137 (+97% deviation), $19,042 (+90% deviation), and $64,337 (+80% deviation).

You Might Also Like

Conversely, major buying opportunities tend to emerge when the price compresses to the bottom of the corridor. In the 2014–2015 bear market, the price bottomed at $230 against a power law support calculation of $252 (-62% deviation).

In the 2018 capitulation, the price hit a floor of $3,204 against a support line estimate of $2,521 (-53% deviation)

The 2022 crypto winter floor of $16,366 perfectly caught the orange support line tracking at $15,006 (-57% deviation).

The lower panel of Fidelity’s research chart uses a dual-indicator system to determine true market exhaustion: pink bars tracking the direct percentage deviation from the power law trendline, and blue bars charting the 52-week Z-score of the Bitcoin/Gold ratio.

The market is in the final stages of a valuation reset. The weekly data shows Bitcoin sitting at a local level of $62,685. It is a stone’s throw away from its long-term power law support line sitting at $56,488.

Furthermore, the data shows a -56% power law deviation aligned with a -100% Z-score reading. Historically, whenever the 52-week Z-score compresses to the -100% to -120% range (as seen in late 2014, late 2018, and late 2022), it indicates that Bitcoin has become mathematically exhausted relative to gold.

Bitcoin is currently in the middle of printing a modest short-term reversal, currently trading at $63,957.

The muted response is the pattern now. When Iran first closed the Strait of Hormuz in early March, Brent crude jumped past $100 a barrel for the first time in four years and later peaked near $120, and bitcoin sold off sharply on each escalation.

Part of that is timing. Oil, equities and bonds are closed for the weekend, so bitcoin is the only large market open to price the strikes in real time, and it is treating them as close to a non-event.

The fuller cross-asset reaction, in crude especially, might not show until Monday. Roughly a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil moves through Hormuz, and Brent had already carried a risk premium into the weekend after tanker traffic through the strait stayed below normal.

The real test comes Monday, however, if crude reopens with a sharp gap higher while bitcoin holds its ground. A calmer oil open would say the strait closure is being read as a threat Tehran has made and walked back before.

Tether Expands Its Footprint in Latin America With a $20 Million Investment in Mercado Bitcoin

Latam markets and the companies regulated to serve them are attracting the attention of global companies seeking to establish an institutional foothold in the region.

Tether, the global stablecoin company, disclosed a $20 million investment in Mercado Bitcoin, a Brazilian financial services company, as part of a strategic growth financing round that also included SoftBank.

With these funds, Mercado Bitcoin will bankroll expansion improvements in its payments infrastructure, tokenized investment offerings, and on-chain capital markets, aiming to establish a foothold in other countries in the region.

The company, which has over 4.5 million customers and operates in Brazil and Europe, was qualified by Tether as “one of the most comprehensive regulated on-chain financial platforms in Latin America,” and is part of a series of similar investments in payments and infrastructure companies that Tether is backing in the region.

Operation Veil of Maya: Brazilian Police Dismantle Massive Illegal Betting and Crypto Money Laundering Ring

On Monday, the Brazilian Federal Police executed Operation “Veil of Maya,” cracking down on an illegal betting ring that used shell companies to launder and redirect funds to these activities using fiat and digital currency.

The operation was codenamed “Veil of Maya” as it represents a facade that impedes the appreciation of reality, meaning that these shell companies presented objectives that hid their true purposes.

According to the Federal Police, 87 companies were targeted in this operation, but official numbers on their volumes have not been revealed. The specific use of crypto assets in the operations would be limited to the transference of funds abroad.

Abcripto Blasts Central Bank of Brazil’s 24-Hour Stablecoin Lock as ‘Disproportionate’

ABcripto, the Brazilian Cryptoeconomy Association, which groups industry giants such as Binance, Coinbase, Crypto.com, and Tether, has introduced a document opposing an earlier proposal by the central bank, which recommended a 24-hour lock window for stablecoin remittances.

According to local media, in a letter sent to the Department of Financial Regulation (Denor), ABcripto agrees that regulatory groups must pursue fraudulent and illicit activity, but argues that this measure is disproportionate and must be preceded by more thorough research of the Brazilian cryptocurrency market.

As justification for this 24-hour lock on transactions exceeding $10,000, the bank cited a Chainalysis crypto crime report, noting that illicit transaction volumes had reached a record high in 2025.

Dogecoin Traders Watch $0.13 as DOGE Reclaims A Key Technical Level is the kind of crypto story that looks simple at headline level but becomes more useful once you place it inside the wider market backdrop. Dogecoin is at its most interesting when technical traders and retail attention line up at the same time.

The reason it deserves attention today is not that one announcement or filing magically changes the whole market. It is that the update adds another data point to a sector still trying to work out where capital, users, and regulation are actually moving.

TL;DR

A Dogecoin chart analyst flagged a move back above a key moving average.

DOGE bulls are now watching whether the price can push toward the $0.13 zone.

The setup is technical, not guaranteed, and depends on broader market follow-through.

https://x.com/doge_trader/status/2075256793470906570

What The Chart Is Really Saying

The chart-led setup focuses on DOGE reclaiming a moving average that traders often use as a short-term trend marker.

The $0.13 region is being watched as the next meaningful resistance zone.

Chart-led stories need a lighter touch. An analyst post can frame a setup, but it should not be treated as confirmation that a move has to happen. The value is in identifying the level traders are watching and explaining why it matters.

Why Caution Still Matters

Because the source is chart-led, the article should stay analytical and avoid treating the setup as a prediction.

That is especially true with memecoins, where technical structure can change quickly if broader risk appetite fades or retail attention moves somewhere else.

In other words, this is a development to watch rather than a guaranteed turning point. Crypto moves quickly, but the useful signals are usually the ones that still make sense after the first reaction fades.

The important thing for readers is context. A single development rarely defines the market on its own, but a series of source-backed updates can show where momentum is building. That is why this article keeps the focus on the specific mechanism in play, the source behind it, and the reason traders or builders may care today.

Strategy executive chairman Michael Saylor and Blockstream CEO Adam Back have doubled down on their opposition to BIP-110, a proposed temporary fork to limit non-monetary transactions on the Bitcoin network.

Bitcoin Improvement Proposal-110 was introduced in December 2025 to stop nonfungible token-like Ordinals inscriptions and other arbitrary data from “spamming” the network and to preserve Bitcoin’s main use as a peer-to-peer cash system.

While critical of Ordinals activity, Saylor and Back fear a fork could do more harm than good to the network’s credibility. “There are 110 things more dangerous to Bitcoin than spam,” Saylor said in a post to X on Saturday, adding that BIP-110 could invalidate ordinary transactions on the network.

BIP-110 is one of the more notable protocol-level disputes in the Bitcoin development community since the Blocksize Wars between 2015 and 2017, when ecosystem participants debated whether it was worth risking a chain split to raise the block size limit for scalability.

BIP-110 was introduced by pseudonymous Bitcoin developer “Dathon Ohm” with the support of Ocean protocol founder Luke Dashjr.

BIP-110 is a long shot from activating

BIP-110 won’t be activated unless 55% of Bitcoin nodes validating blocks are in support of the proposal across a Bitcoin block “period.”

In the last period, period number 475 between block 955,584 and 957,599, only 1% of blocks were BIP-110-supportive.

The dispute comes at a time when Ordinals activity is at near all-time lows, with fewer than 10,000 Ordinals inscribed into the Bitcoin blockchain on a daily basis over the last month, down massively from the more than 400,000 seen during its peak in August 2023.

Meanwhile, Back offered a deeper critique of BIP-110, describing it as a “quest to police other people.”

He said Bitcoin’s decentralization should mean “you can’t impose your views on others,” calling it incompatible with Bitcoin’s cypherpunk ethos of permissionless, censorship-resistant money.

Dashjr and other BIP-110 proponents have called Ordinals-driven bloat a “serious threat” to the network, prompting the need for an imminent fix.

They have also argued BIP-110 wouldn’t cause a chain split, as many fear, while adding that the BIP-110 fork imposes a temporary one-year limit and thus wouldn’t invalidate fee-paying transactions over the long term.
